After a week full of work to meet deadlines, everybody needs some breather to relax and recuperate. From watching a favourite web series to planning a vacation, weekends are designated as family and me time. Avlesh Singh, co-founder and CEO, WebEngage, talks to BrandWagon Online about his weekends, favourite vacation destination and more.
What is the one thing you like to do when not working?
Honestly, as founders, we don’t get the luxury of time as work consumes every part of our day. Even when we’re are asleep, our mind is constantly processing ideas or solving problems. So, switching off completely from work is quite challenging. However, whenever I manage to find some time away from work, I enjoy reading or watching movies to unwind.
How do you spend your weekends?
I devote my weekends to spending quality time with my family, often traveling and exploring new places. These moments makes me feel recharged and offers a fresh perspective that fuels my work when Monday rolls around.
What are your favourite gadgets?
I don’t really have a favorite gadget since I don’t use many. The only gadget I use is my phone, though I admit I spend quite a bit of time on it, mainly for checking emails and using WhatsApp throughout the day.
Given an option to choose another career, what would it be?
It’s difficult to imagine myself in another role because my passion for building and leading WebEngage has always been at the forefront. However, if I had to choose a different path, I think I would have become a developer. I have always enjoyed the intricacies of coding and the thrill of working with new technologies. With the rapid advancements in language models, I would find immense joy in exploring these innovations and contributing to the tech landscape as an engineer. So yes, in an alternate reality, I’d likely be a developer.
Which is your favourite vacation spot?
There are so many incredible destinations both within India and internationally, each with its own unique charm. This makes it difficult for me to choose a favorite vacation spot. However, if I had to choose, I must first admit I’m a mountain person and have a strong affinity for them. The northern regions of India, with their breathtaking mountain landscapes, hold a special place in my heart.
A TV show, a movie, and an ad campaign you highly recommend watching
I have a few favourite movies and TV shows recommendations. First would be ‘The Man From Earth’, a very offbeat movie that I end up recommending to a lot of people; I believe it’s a great movie. I would also recommend ‘Narcos,’ a series that got me hooked with its brilliant screenplay, cinematography, and historical depth in showcasing the challenging times for humanity. It’s a fabulous series to watch. I’ve watched ‘The Godfather’ a hundred times. It remains a timeless classic and I can endlessly watch it again. The same goes for ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’. It’s a different kind of movie, but I enjoy the genre. As for ad campaigns, I can’t pick just one. There are many impressive ones that have come and gone, but none have left a truly lasting impact on me.
